Outline

– Koekabu: Kabuki Read Aloud
Contents: Original modern-language readings of the classic kabuki plays “Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees” and “Kagotsurube Sato no Eizame” that even novices to kabuki can enjoy. This new telling of kabuki is voiced by popular voice actors.

– Adachigahara – A Demon Dwelling in the Darkness of Ginza
Contents: The demon legends Adachigahara and Kurozuka have fascinated people not only through the Noh theater, but in kabuki, manga, opera, and a variety of other forms.
The music of popular composer Masanori Katoh is woven into the Noh play Adachigahara through Fuminori “Maro” Shinozaki (violin), Mari Moriya (soprano), and Taira Kaneko (clarinet) as Munenori Takeda (lead) gives off sparks, creating a never-before-seen space and time. The first collaborative project between Oji Hall and Kanze Noh Theater at Tokyo Art & Live City was with Hagoromo in 2019 (Oji Hall) and 2020 (Kanze Noh Theater). Adachigahara is the second installment in this series and will be performed at the Kanze Noh Theater this spring and at Oji Hall this fall. Look forward to a production that has grown even more sophisticated over the past four years at Oji Hall.

– The Diverse Expressions of Nihon Buyo
Contents: Traditional Japanese dance called Nihon Buyo developed in the Edo area along with Kabuki. As Ginza developed, so did this form of art in the entertainment district, which has continued to produce new works even today. Former NHK announcer Seiji Kasai and Japanese dance artist Bokusetsu Onoe, born and raised in Ginza, give a light-hearted talk, while the “Viewing” and “Experiences” of this dance will help you understand the essence of Nihon Buyo and its creation and development. This program also lets you experience the magic of kouta (short ballad), nagauta (long ballad), biwa, and a variety of other music from a new perspective.

– Experience Noh, Ginza style
Contents: Noh is a comprehensive art performed through dance, gesture, song, musical accompaniment, and interludes known as kyogen. Experience the multifaceted appeal of Noh with former Takarazuka star Kei Takashiro through the famous play Takasago. Then, Yamashina Yaemon discusses the history of the Kanze family, while Saburota Kanze discusses the future of Noh, letting you feel the depth and joy of Noh.This innovative new Ginza-style program is made possible by the fact that the Kanze family possessed an official residence in Ginza during the Edo shogunate.

– Ginza Gallery Stamp Rally
Details: Ginza is home not only to the theater and cinemas, but with nearly 250 galleries, it is also a famous art spot. There are many people who visit shops and museums in the Ginza area but have never been to a gallery. This stamp rally is designed to create an opportunity for such people to visit an art gallery.
A total of 23 galleries plan to participate. From antiques to modern art and pieces by young up-and-coming artists, these galleries feature all kinds of art genres.Those who visit at least three galleries and collect their stamps can enter a drawing for wonderful prizes.

Contents: Have fun learning about the magic of art with a tour aimed at art novices!
“I’d like to visit a gallery but I’m too shy…”
“I want to learn how to enjoy art!” If this is something you have thought, then this is the tour for you.
Take a tour of the galleries of Ginza in the morning. This tour includes a special explanation from the gallery for an even deeper enjoyment of the arts. In the afternoon, Mitsuru Karahashi, an actor and illustrator who has held solo exhibitions in the past, will host a talk show! He will be welcoming guest Yuki Fujiwara, an actor who has a wealth of experience performing with Karahashi, and together they will discuss what makes art so magical.

Geidankyo is a public interest incorporated association representing performers organizations and their individual members. It was established in 1965 to contribute to the development of the performing arts. It has managed performers’ neighboring rights collectively as well as promoting a variety of performing arts activities based on three concept; making an arrangement for enriching a cycle of creation, cultivating bearers of the future of performing arts, and creating chances for developing performing arts.
