Taiko+dance unit, whose members perform both as dancers and drummers, will create their first full-length stage piece and perform it at a theater in Tokyo.
The aim is to create a stage expression and stage performance that will reaffirm the value of a “living stage” through the dynamism of percussion instruments and movement, which are the unit’s weapons. We will take the utmost infection control measures to minimize the risk to the performers, staff, and audience.
Publicity and advertising will be carried out not only through SNS, but also by reaching out to local communities such as restaurants, culture centers, schools, etc. in the vicinity of the venue, which do not require travel between prefectures.
The video of the performance will be recorded and used as material for future publicity.
Taiko+Dance unit
The group was established by dancers and Japanese taiko drummers who graduated from a Japanese taiko drum performance team in College of Arts, the Tamagawa University.
It consists of four members: Toru Hasegawa, Naoyuki Sakai, Ayato Saito, and Mayu Yamazaki.
The group features a performance style in which all group members both dance and play Japanese taiko drums.
They perform across Japan, mainly in the Kanto region, including the Sanriku International Arts Festival (Iwate) and the Nango Art Project (Aomori).
Utilizing dynamism, jokes and primitive power, the group creates powerful performance in which the physicality of playing taiko and the musical body intersect.
Their major performances include “GAWA” ,“MAURA”, “SOREZONARU” and “DAN/DAN”.
