The Setagaya ume matsuri (Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival), which this year marks its 44th anniversary, offered numerous events carrying tidings of spring, such as the mochi rice pounding by Mitoshirokai and matcha and sencha open-air tea ceremonies, as well as koto music and taiko drum performances. Visitors were met by everyone involved in the festival in order to pass Japan’s traditional arts down to the next generation.

Setagaya ume matsuri jikkouiinkai (Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival Executive Committee)
The festival is planned and managed by an executive committee comprising forty members, mainly from local shopping districts and neighborhood associations. The Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival Executive Committee cooperates with the entire community including local shopping districts, neighborhood associations, the Japanese Red Cross Society, schools and event officials to give a boost to the festival, which this year marks its 44th anniversary.
