The SHIMOKITAZAWA MUSIC FESTIVAL is a cross-generational event for everyone from kids to the elderly, under the concept of the “co-existence of intergenerational sounds.” This event unites not just locals but everyone visiting Shimokitazawa in music-driven affection for and rediscovery of this bohemian neighborhood. The 31st edition of the festival, the first in-person event for three years, took place with thorough measures in place to combat the spread of coronavirus. Centering on artists with a connection to Shimokitazawa, performers encompassed everyone from children to the elderly. The festival was held in cooperation with shopping street and neighborhood associations and the local music community in the hope that people will feel pride in Shimokitazawa and think of it as their hometown. In addition to the main concert utilizing a concert hall, the event offered a variety of entertainment including free outdoor live performances around Shimokitazawa Station.
