START from BABY -System of Social inclusion by art-

  • Organization : JAPAN UNION OF THEATRICAL COMPANIES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNGPEOPLE
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

This project is aimed at leveraging the power of art to create a system of social inclusion. At five locations in Tokyo, artists in various genres worked on the production of “Baby Mini Theater”(directed by Jackie E Chang) for infants aged 0 to 24 months and their parents.
The project creates opportunities for parents and children who are isolated in the local community to gain emotional release and fulfillment through hands-on art experiences. It also offers opportunities for non-verbal interaction and communication, and the chance to cultivate an environment for living together with others, thereby eliminating the anxiety of raising children. With an additional focus on preventing child abuse, the project is an attempt to create a system that supports child-rearing in the community as a whole by uncovering organizations and human resources to collaborate with as well as by expanding the usefulness of activities and the circle of people who understand or who are“in the same boat.”
