This is a collaboration between director Kyle Yamada and art unit Jeunesse White (Yoeh Noda and Ako katsura). Based on a text developed from research on Kamono Choumei’s “Hojouki,” the performers created and staged their own solo performances. Appearing in this Tokyo premiere were dancer and choreographer Rena Kimura as well as Ako katsura and Yoeh Noda.
Kyle Yamada
Kyle Yamada is a playwright, director, and dramaturg. He is the Artistic Director of Allergen Theatre, which he founded. Kyle was born 1993 in Texas, U.S., and grew up in Aomori prefecture, Japan. He began his career as a dance dramaturg, and later moved on to creating his own work. Recent works include “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Kumano,” a contemporary adaptation of the Kabuki Oguri-Hangan, and “The Cock-A-Doodle-Doo of the Land of Dawn,” a performance based on research conducted along with dancer/choreographer Reina Kimura on the folklore of the Sanriku region.
