Utau-Hahagokoro is a performance group comprising actors who are mothers with their children in tow. The group was scheduled to give a show targeted at theatergoing parents staying away from live performances, under the idea that the performers, production staff members and occasionally the audience would all watch over each other’s children while the performance took place. However, face-to-face rehearsals and performances were deemed problematic given the situation with the pandemic. Utau-Hahagokoro recorded and edited a collection of songs on the theme of childrearing and made them available via online streaming as the album “CHORUS IN CHAOS.”

Utau-Hahagokoro
Utau-Hahagokoro is a theatrical/choir group made up of actresses who have given birth and are raising children. Day to day, they are facing difficulties and social barriers in raising children. They realized that these difficulties themselves could be themes and inspiration for their performances and formed a group named Utau-Hahagokoro (Singing motherhood). This is a theatrical/ chorus performance presented as a “mom’s chorus recital”. In their performances, they sing the love, sadness, wish and exhaustion in raising children, while the self-consciousness of the women collides and resonate with each other. They rehearse and perform with children. The chaos of children crying, screaming, running, and climbing is all part of their performances.
