What we do

A series of barrier-free courses for theatre professionals: Support for the Visually Impaired

  • Organization : Senior Theatre Network
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

These courses aimed at theater professionals introduce methods for supporting the theatergoing experience for the visually impaired as well as hands-on training at theaters to help participants put these methods into practice. In the first session we hear from people with disabilities themselves. In the second session we hear about the experiences of a theater group already engaged in accessibility practice. The third session will involve guidance/usher practice for the visually impaired. In session four, participants will create and record pre-performance audio commentary. In course five, participants will put what they have learnt in the previous four sessions into practice at a theater, performing everything from guidance to pre-performance audio commentary, and gaining hands-on experience of audio description, before participating in a roundtable discussion.
