Outline

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Franco-Japanese Association for Contemporary Music, an organization comprising musicians from Japan and France, a total of three concerts were held which brought together member composers, performers, and musicologists from both countries. The two concerts in September focused on the Japanese premiere of a two-piano version of “Amériques” by Edgar Varèse, providing an overview of a century or so of modern piano music with two pianos and four pianists. The November concert featured a total of 11 pieces performed by 15 member musicians, including works by the late Nagatomi Masayuki and Tamba Akira, who were honorary advisors for the Association; works by French members Benjamin Attahir and Florent Caron Darras, who are highly acclaimed in Europe; and new pieces and premiere works by Japanese members.
