This is the first of four lectures and concerts being given over three years from this September, the 100th anniversary of the birth of György Ligeti, to June 12, 2026, the 20th anniversary of the composer’s death. The series is set to reveal the truth about Ligeti by showing new aspects to the composer, such as his composition teaching methods, personality, and friendships, based on the memories and testimonies of guests, students of Ligeti who were particularly close to him.
Vol. 1 will feature former Ligeti student and pianist, Hubertus Drever.Organizers aim to create a “new platform” for bridging the past and the future of contemporary music and opening up new possibilities for interpretation of Ligeti’s works. Ultimately, an archive will be created including the publication of a book,“Ligeti: A Turbulent Life”documenting Ligeti’s life and work.
