  • Section : Artistic and creative activity in Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Theater

Outline

This is the fourth production by AMAIYOYO, a group which is active in metropolitan Tokyo. Modeled on troupe leader Mao Yuki’s own experience, this theatrical work portrays the psychology of “invisible children” suffering from abuse and poverty.

This work comprises four stories: “Tin foil goldfish” in which a young man with attachment issues who was abused growing up reflects on his own past; “YASASHII OUCHI YASAN”, the story of a girl who is happy enough to spend daily life with a foster family, but cannot acclimatize to the honesty of her foster parents; “MAGICAL♡GIRL♡APOLOGIES” about a woman who grew up in a dysfunctional family and got used to reading the faces of the adults around her; and “perfect nymphet,” a video work streamed by a male Vtuber who uses an online female avatar.

The aim was to raise the issue of the harmful effect of growing up in a dysfunctional family, and to create a work that would act like a lucky charm for those who did grow up this way.
