Dance artist Saori Hala, who has a background in design, has garnered attention for her sophisticated composition, direction, and concept-based creative methods. This is her first full-length performance since returning to Japan after ten years or so in Berlin. Having explored the world of perception using the body as a medium, Hala’s inspiration for the choreography of this project is the physical memory of “vibration and reception” experienced from a young age in earthquake-prone Japan. The title “P wave” comes from “primary wave,” a seismological term referring to the first micro tremors that occur when an earthquake strikes. This performance was given after the two and a half years of research that followed a work-in-progress performance with the same title staged in 2021.
