This constitutes Sae Kawakubo’s first solo theater production, and the launch of her one-person unit Kawakubo Hitorigurashi for which she writes, directs, and performs. Three works old and new looking at older women, young people, and children respectively have been brought together as one work in a project that has seen the beginning of Sae Kawakubo’s theatrical life and career proper. The works in question are “Student,” which won the Grand Prix at Emi’s awards 2019; “27 years old,” which was performed as “23 years old” at APOFES2020, and reworked and performed in Osaka as “25 years old” at the solo drama festival INDEPENDENT: 21 and in Sendai at the invitation of INDEPENDENT:SND before being rewritten again as “27 years old”; and Kawakubo’s new work, “An Adult.”
Sae Kawakubo
Artist affiliated with entertainment agency BLUE LABEL. Besides working as an actor in various fields including stage and film, since 2017 Kawakubo has been staging one-person plays she writes, directs, and performs herself, principally at solo drama festivals in Tokyo and Osaka. In 2019 she won the Grand Prix at Emi’s awards for a one-person play she also wrote. This performance constitutes the full-fledged launch of her one-person theatrical unit, Kawakubo Hitorigurashi.
