The Session House Young Dancer Support Project is a new program with two key elements: Session House Award Dance Flower and Dance Flower Advanced.
The Dance Flower Award features performances of “dances that people want to see again” chosen from the Session House Non-Selective Program Theater 21 Fes. Performances will take place twice a year (10 works in total), with the best work each year being selected to receive the Session Best Award.
Dance Flower Advanced focuses on performances of work by outstanding young choreographers chosen from those whose works have featured in Session House dance programs. The first stage will take place in September, in the form of performances followed by a Dancer Conference held in collaboration with young researchers, providing a forum for critique and analysis. The second stage will see the work performed once more in January, with the aim of enhancing the quality of the works. This new program aims to take dancers and works alike to the next level, in order to create an internationally acclaimed contemporary dance scene.
Session House Planning Office is a planning group based at Kagurazaka Session House that aims to promote creative activities in the field of the performing arts and fine art. Staff and artists work together to bring their programs to fruition, undertaking unique activities aimed at expanding the types of audiences they attract, as well as working with the local community and promoting cultural exchange with countries across the globe. The group attaches particular importance to ensuring that the next generation is equipped with both planning ability and an international outlook, and it has had tremendous success in producing such outstanding choreographers. It has turned its Dance Flower selective program, which has been implementing, into an awards program since 2012. From then, it has selected the winner of the Annual Best in Session Award from among the twice-yearly Dance Flower performances. Feeling that there is a need to share information with the rest of Asia about global dance trends, Session House promotes the exchange of works with festivals in Asia, as well as actively promoting exchange in the screening of competitions. In future, Session House aims to further expand its exchange activities with a focus on East Asia.
