Wonderful discoveries in Ueno

These collaborative programs with Ueno Park museums unite participants with “Art Communicators,” opening the doors to eye-opening explorations of everything from art to science.

Schedule

(1) Architecture: Thursday, August 10 2017, 10:00–12:30
On this tour, kids get a fascinating look at the creations of two renowned architects: Le Corbusier and Kunio Maekawa.
Eligible participants:
Students (elementary school to high school)

Venue: Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

(2) Art & Animals: Sunday, September 3 2017, 10:00–14:30
This tour takes participants to two captivating locations, spotlighting the dynamic palette of colors of the artwork at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and the birds at the Ueno Zoo.

(3) Art & Science: Sunday, October 29 2017, 10:00–15:00
Through this workshop program, a color-themed adventure, participants get the chance to tour the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and the National Museum of Nature and Science, and make their very own paints out of natural colors.
Eligible participants:
Students (3rd year in elementary school to high school)

(4) Van Gogh: Friday, November 3 2017, 16:30–19:30
This workshop, a tour of the Tokyo National Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, provides a fascinating look at the works that Vincent van Gogh created—and the Japanese artistic tradition he so admired.
Eligible participants:
Students (4th year in elementary school to high school)
Parents/guardians of participating students

(5) Artists: Sunday, December 17 2017, 10:00–14:30
Children’s books are the main focus of this workshop, which gives participants the opportunity to tour the International Library of Children’s Literature collection—a trove of rare titles, including unique pop-up books—and create their very own “artist books.”

Students (elementary school to high school)
Parents/guardians of participating students
Venue: International Library of Children’s Literature, National Diet Library, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

(6) Collectors: Thursday, March 22 2018, 10:00–12:30
This art-appreciation workshop gives participants a chance to find their favorite piece at the VOCA Exhibition, a showcase of works by up-and-coming artists.
Eligible participants:
Students (elementary school to high school)
Parents/guardians of participating students
Venue: The Ueno Royal Museum

Capacity

First 15 pairs of a child and his/her parent/guardian for each session.

(1) Admission to the permanent collection at the National Museum of Western Art (500 yen)
(2) Admission to “Hiroshi Sugito module or lacuna” exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (800 yen) and Ueno Zoo (600 yen)
(3) Admission to the permanent exhibitions at the National Museum of Nature and Science (620 yen)
(4) Admission to the regular exhibitions at the Tokyo National Museum (620 yen) and “Van Gogh and Japan” exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (1,600 yen)
(5) None
(6) Admission to “VOCA” exhibition (600 yen)
