Ensembles Tokyo is a participatory music festival first held in 2015 which anyone can take part in. Under the direction of musician Otomo Yoshihide, the aim is for participants to create their own new musical arena, transcending their respective viewpoints and styles. For this its fourth outing, the festival is taking place on Sunday, August 26 at the city’s iconic Tokyo Tower for the second year running. Tokyo Tower is a tourist hotspot and gathering place for different people from Japan and overseas.
For this year’s festival, pre-event workshops will be held by Santiago Vazquez, the dynamic percussionist from Argentina, Kan Takagi × DJ Miso Soup & MC Rice,YasuhiroYoshigaki and Orquesta Nudge! Nudge!, Otomo Yoshihide, and others. On the day of the event, members of the public take to the stage with the artists for an audience participation based live performance. There will also be a giant furoshiki cloth wrapper making workshop run by the Project FUKUSHIMA! group, who together with the general public will then take part in event production duties by putting together a giant furoshiki art installation.

There will also be a guest appearance on the day by actress and “creative artist” Non, and an array of dazzling artists like Yuji Katsui from instrumental band Rovo and singer-songwriter Satoko Shibata will join Santiago Vazquez on stage.
