2020 GO to Ueno!

Program for families (children and parents/guardians) participating for the first time in Museum Start i-Ueno, a program encouraging people to think of museums as a fun and exciting place

This is a two-stage program comprising online participation for Step 1, and an actual trip to museums in Step 2.

Step 1: GO to Ueno! Online

This is an online workshop for people participating in the program for the first time. “Art Communicator” helps you enjoy and appreciate masterpieces of art in a workshop and we introduce the appeal of Ueno Park’s cluster of nine cultural facilities, and share ways to enjoy the museums.

*The program will be held in Japanese.

Participation fee
Participation in this program is free.

Eligibility
Students (elementary school to high school) who are taking part in the “Museum Start i-Ueno” program for the first time and parents/guardians of participating students
*Students of junior high school age and above may participate alone.
*Eligible school grades differ per session.

Capacity
Children and parents/guardians: 30 groups/60 participants

*In the case of multiple applicants such as siblings, one application is required for each child wishing to participate.
*One application only per group. Multiple applications will be invalidated.
*Details of the program will be given to you in our e-mail “Information for the day of the program,” to be sent several days before the actual day.

    Morning 10:30 – 12:00 * 1st to 3rd grade elementary school students
    Afternoon 13:30 – 15:00 *4th to 6th grade elementary school students/junior and senior high school students
    Application period: Wednesday, July 15 – Sunday, July 26 Tuesday, July 28
    *first come, first served basis; applications will close when capacity is reached

    Morning 10:30 – 12:00 * 1st to 3rd grade elementary school students

Conditions for participation
– This program will be conducted using web conferencing app Zoom. Participants will need a stable environment for internet use, and a laptop PC (Windows, Mac etc.) or tablet such as iPad.
– During the program, children will look at and learn about onscreen artworks, and have face-to-face interaction with other children and Art Communicators. Please use a PC, iPad or other tablet rather than a smartphone to make the screen easier to see.
– Each participant will need a PC, iPad etc. with an inbuilt camera and microphone during the program. If your device does not have a camera or microphone, please ensure you have a separate web camera or similar.

Step 2: GO to Ueno! Real

This is a program for people who took part in “Step 1: GO to Ueno! Online visit.” Participants pick their favorite museum in Ueno Park and actually go visit it. Be sure to check beforehand for exhibitions that interest you! After visiting an exhibition, share your experiences that day with other program participants.
*Reservations may be required for entry to the museums. Please check admission procedures before visiting.

Participation fee
Participation in this program is free.
*Museums may charge exhibition/entry fees.

Eligibility
Pairs comprising children who took part in “Step 1: GO to Ueno! Online” and a parent/guardian
*Students of junior high school age and above may participate alone.

Capacity
40 pairs/80 participants

Applications
Participants of “Step 1: GO to Ueno! Online” will be notified via e-mail of how to apply for “Step 2: GO to Ueno! Real.”
