What we do

Constructing a Platform to Connect Theatres, Actors, and Theatre Practitioners

  • Organization : Japanese Centre of International Theatre Institute
  • Section : In Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Theater, Dance

This project will work to establish a network between local theatres and an informal platform for those in the theatre and dance fields in conjunction with public and private theatres in Tokyo. In the first half of 2014, for example, they will be holding a series of 14 lectures including “Theatre and Society,” “Exploring Contemporary Theatre Around the World,” “Theatre Education around the World,” and “Professionals who work overseas.” We will give audiences a chance to become more active in theatre, as well as provide an open network for theatre and dance professionals.

Japanese Center of International Theatre Institute
The Japanese Center of International Theatre Institute is one of the national organizations involved in the International Theatre Institute (ITI/UNESCO) that is stationed in Paris. Founded in 1951, it became incorporated in 1990 and was upgraded to a public service corporation in July 2013. In association with the Agency for Cultural Affairs, each year it publishes a “Theatre Yearbook,” and also does surveys and research on international exchange of theatre and dance.
