Tokyo Shutter Girl Project

  • Organization : Tokyo Shutter Girl Partnership
  • Section : In Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Visual Art / Media Art

Outline

Based on the comic series Tokyo Shutter Girl by Kenichi Kiriki in the weekly comic magazine “Goraku.” This project expands on the original comic’s themes of cameras, photos, and walking around town, through multidisciplinary methods such as photo exhibitions and film adaptation (there have been two photo exhibitions so far).
Thirty photographers, selected from the public, freely express their own take on the settings that appear in the comic. Previous exhibits have been featured in camera magazines and roving exhibitions, and the e-book (kindle) version of the winners made the top 4 on Amazon’s best-seller list.
The movie Tokyo Shutter Girl is produced by Kenichi Kiriki, author of the original comic, and it consists of three separate works by three separate directors, each set in Tokyo. Since October 2013, the movie has been appearing all around Japan.
