Playwright/director Toru Sasaki (Reqoo-Zoo-Room) and Danchi Gouda (Doryoku Kurabu)

Osaka-born Tokyo resident Sasaki and Gouda, a resident of Kyoto, hold a discussion that starts on the theme of “decoration”, and then create and perform a piece of theater from it. Both men and women use make-up and fashion to make themselves look good or to hide flaws. We also “decorate” ourselves by acquiring titles or skills. While decoration creates differences with others, it can also be used to show your true self in a different way. This project looks at the cultural differences between Kansai and Kanto, and also expands the topic to ostentation within society. Sasaki and Gouda illustrate the potential for new ways of creating plays by tackling the co-writing of a play together using Skype, rather like “four hand piano” playing.
