The second work in the Project M series, launched by Niwa Gekidan Penino writer, director and leader Kuro Tanino together with German stage art director/costume designer Caspar Pichner. It will be performed as a more expanded version of “MOON,” which the troupe staged outdoors at the World Theatre Festival Shizuoka 2017. In this audience participation piece, the dwarf actors who comprise the cast invite audience members onstage to get involved in the proceedings.

【Kuro Tanino】
Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1976, Tanino is the leader, resident playwright and director of theater company Niwa Gekidan Penino. He launched the company in 2000 while a medical school student, and since then has written and directed all the company’s plays. He has been invited to numerous major theater festivals around the world, chiefly in Europe. Apart from Niwa Gekidan Penino theatrical performances, in January 2011 he wrote and directed Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre’s production “Chekhov?”. In March 2015, he premiered his new work “Käfig aus Wasser” in Germany, while “Avidya: No Lights Inn” won the 60th Kishida Kunio Drama Award in 2016. In the same year, Tanino won the Kitanippon Shimbun arts incentive award, and his troupe garnered the Arts Festival Excellence Award from the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs in the theater category.
