Outline

This exhibition, “Breathing IN/EX-terior”, is a solo exhibition by Vincent Ruijters. Ruijters is an artist who architecturally models his inner affective space as material space to realize what he calls “Intimacy as Aesthetics”. His works aim to design tactility as physical sensation through media technology. By crossing boundaries of inner space and outer public space, his goal is also to challenge notions of intimacy.
Four new works will be presented in this exhibition. Based on the natural phenomenon of
“wind” and physical sense of “breath”, these works will materialize his affective interior order. On the other hand, he will also highlight the chaotic relationship between private and public space through improvisational drawings, collages and snapshot photographs, which will showcase extremely private and multifaceted facets of his daily life. By focusing on “Intima-cy”, an apparatus that the artist produces, the relationship between his affective inner space and public outer space will appear as a semi-chaotic phenomenon – one which oscillates between order and chaos – while also mirroring the state of communication in our digital age.
