Tachikawa Culture Factory Opening Performance: ‘Soko: Night on the Galactic Railroad’

  • Organization : Arts Network Japan
  • Section : Artistic and creative activity in Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Theater

Outline

As a project making use of a closed school – a first for the city of Tachikawa – and as the opening project for the Tachikawa Culture Factory initiative that sees a full-scale launch from October, we offer a performance of playwright Soh Kitamura’s representative work “Soko: Night on the Galactic Railroad.” The performance will be directed by Koji Kurasako from Theatre Ort. This performance is a revival of the work, which premiered in Sapporo in April 2013 to high acclaim by critics reminded of Kenji Miyazawa’s quest for the meaning of life and death. With an admission price making the performance accessible for local people unfamiliar with theater, organizers hope this will be the first step towards revitalizing arts and culture in Tachikawa going forward.
