Outline

In the composer’s anniversary year, this new production hailing from Tokyo brings together the top names in Japanese opera. Director Kenta Fukasaku explores the history of mankind’s struggle against “walls.”

Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation
Singers’ organization Nikikai was established in 1952 with the aim of researching and performing vocal music in general. In 1977 Nikikai Opera Foundation was formed, earning high acclaim for its achievements as the core of the opera world in Japan with performances of major operatic works and Japan premieres of contemporary opera. In 2005, the activities and organization of Nikikai Opera Foundation were reorganized and consolidated together with those of Nikikai, and the organization was renamed Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation, becoming a public interest incorporated foundation in 2010.
