Profile

【IDIOT SAVANT theater company】
IDIOT SAVANT is a Tokyo-based theatre company founded in 2005 by Koh-Toh-Shi, who had formerly been a member of Daisan Erotica, another Japanese theatre group which disbanded in 2010. Since its establishment, IDIOT SAVANT has been known for its unique and tense performing style, using the contemporary style of movements and the theory of body expression which they have developed for themselves. Their plays are based on Koh-Toh-Shi’s dry and at the same time lyrical poetry and texts. IDIOT SAVANT’s many performances in the past include five 12-hour performances in 2013 entitled “Inochizutai.” They also performed “Tohoku” in Paris in 2016. In 2017, IDIOT SAVANT began collaborating with Belloo Creative of Australia and Good Company Arts (GCA) of New Zealand. The Japanese company was invited to Australia in 2018 to create and perform “SAND” with Belloo and GCA. The play was later developed collaboratively by the three parties into “House in the Dunes,” which was performed in 2020 in Yokohama, Japan.
