Performances of a program for large jazz ensembles written by Danish composer/arranger Kenneth Dahl Knudsen and Japanese composer/arrangers Kyoko Satoh and Noriaki Mori. In addition to the Tokyo performance, there will be a Berlin performance at the invitation of Berlin jazz club B-flat and Knusen, and performances in Copenhagen and Aalborg by invitation of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and JAZZ9TUS. New works written by each composer/arranger for these events are also included in the respective programs for each location. The program for the Tokyo concert will be performed by two large ensembles in different formations made up of core figures from the Japanese jazz world, in Berlin by a large ensemble led by Knudsen of musicians living in European countries centering around Germany, and at the Copenhagen and Aalborg events, by a large ensemble of mainly Danish musicians. In addition, a workshop will be held in Denmark at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Profile

Brilliant Corners
A jazz composers’ collective formed in 2018 by Kyoko Satoh and Noriaki Mori, two performer/composer/arrangers with a common awareness of the problematic issues at work in the environment for big band jazz in Japan, and in horizontal connections with jazz composers from around the world. With the support of composers based in Berlin and New York, in March 2019 the collective gave a concert in Tokyo entitled “Large Ensemble Jazz from Berlin, New York and Tokyo,” featuring pieces written by seven composers from three cities, and performed by key musicians from Japan’s jazz scene.
