Outline

A performance by contemporary music ensemble, Tokyo Gen’On Project. Noriaki Mori featured for the sixth installment of the Composer’s Selection, in which a single composer provides a new commissioned work and oversees programming for the concert. As a saxophone player and event organizer as well, Mori is known for projects that transcend genres such as contemporary music, jazz, and improvisational performance. For this concert he decided on the keywords “borderless” and “academism.”. Mori’s new saxophone concerto featured free jazz heavyweight Akira Sakata as guest soloist.

Profile

Tokyo Gen’On Project
Formed in 2012 by top musicians of comtemporary music, Tokyo Gen’On Project proposes a new viewpoint as players through their unique programs focusing on Japan/world premiere, and workshops for young musicians / composers / staff members. Its 2013 production “Tokyo Gen’On Project #01” won the 13th Keizo Saji Prize by the Suntory Foundation for Arts.
Current members are; Arima Sumihisa (electronics), Oishi Masanori (saxophone), Kanda Yoshiko (percussion), Kuroda Aki (piano) and Hashimoto Shinya (tuba)
