Outline

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is a program that drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools and bookstores, for primarily children between 3-8 years old. Drag Queens as unique and positive queer role model, read books that carry the common themes of “be yourself” and diversity, with songs and activities in between, and finishes with arts and crafts. As the first and only chapter in Japan, DQSH Tokyo adapts the original program to the local contexts with the guidance of childhood education specialists, in order to make it resonate with Japanese audiences.

Drag Queen Story Hour is a non-profit organization, started and headquartered in San Francisco, the US, and spread across the globe. DQSH Tokyo was launched in November 2018 as the first and only official local chapter in Japan, run by drag queens and other experts who are specialized in childhood education, LGBTQ, NPO management and others.
