Study of modern societies and outfits in Ginza

  • Organization : P3 art and environment
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

Initially the plan was to develop a completely non-contact exhibition format using audio guides. However, since key measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus had been issued by Tokyo Metropolitan Government from January through March, P3 went ahead with research into audio guide production via a workshop and other means, exchanging opinions with people in the Ginza area based on research content. With the cooperation of the Ginza Association, the decision-making body of the Ginza district, as well as street associations and community associations, artist Yoshinari Nishio and audio guide producer Takako Matsuda were brought on board as lecturers for a workshop in which participants “collected” people by watching them coming and going through the backstreets of Ginza from fixed points of observation and making real-time audio recordings describing them in words. After participants had gone around two backstreets together, the workshop allowed for some free time in which participants selected their own “collection” sites. Afterward, they listened to each other’s audio recordings and swapped ideas and opinions.
