Outline

Talk sessions, translation workshops, readings, and symposiums by leading drama translators held once a month for three consecutive months from October 2021. The playwrights dealt with in each session were Simon Stephens, Tennessee Williams, and Tom Stoppard. Participants conveyed the appeal of theater and swapped ideas and opinions on practices in discussions that included what sort of undertaking drama translation is, why we make new translations of the classics, and the pleasures of translating drama.

Profile

Hiromasa Kiuchi
Director, playwright and drama translator, born in Tokyo. Following stints with student and small theater companies, Kiuchi worked on co-creations with overseas directors and artists as part of Theatre Project Tokyo, as well as the script for a Tamiya Kuriyama production, the translation of a Hirotaka Kumabayashi-directed work, and the co-direction of a production by Kazuyoshi Kushida. He received the 7th Yushi Odashima Drama Translation Award. In 2021, he set up TRANSLATION MATTERS INC., for which he is currently the Representative Director.
