This project is principally concerned with the production and exhibition display of artwork by artists Hideki Umezawa and Koichi Sato, who were invited to participate in the Thailand Biennale 2021. With Yuko Hasegawa, the director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa as artistic director, this exhibition, designed and planned on an international level, is based on the concept “So what exactly is the nature of this new capital?” It takes as its idea source the theory of “social common capital” put forward by Dr. Hirofumi Uzawa(a Japanese economist specializing in mathematical economics). Uzawa posits social common capital as something that enriches people in a spiritual sense and creates a sustainable society, rather than as something that involves material sufficiency alone. In response to this concept, Umezawa and Sato have created a new installation looking at the infrastructure connecting the city and the water source that supports it, using an integrated combination of video, sound, and fragrance.
