Outline

Ando’s aim is the improvement of “equal opportunities” in society. Right now she incorporates in particular the theme of gender disparity in her theatrical works; and by using comedy to depict the social disparities surrounding vulnerable groups such as female contract workers,Ando intends to create works that use laughter as a means of allowing audiences to grasp the absurdity and pathos stemming from today’s inequality on a personal level, and to ask questions about and glean insights into society.

Profile

AndoKei
Born on December 13, 1992. After graduating from high school, she joined Drama group Yen Yen Institute for drama, completing the program there. After that she appeared on stage with Gotanda corps and Nakago. In 2016 she formed Ampersand Theatre Company, which she not only leads but also writes, directs, and performs for. In 2021, she got to the final round of the Kanagawa short story drama Award. Ando has also expanded her range of activities beyond stage work, for example handling the script for TV Asahi’s Friday Night Drama, “Wasteful Days of High School Girls.”
