With the aim of developing the percussion quartet, this project is designed to pursue possibilities and increase recognition. This performance constitutes two central themes: the therapeutic soundscapes of Part 1, and the new style of percussion quartet showcased in Part 2. Part 1 focuses on the ostensibly surprising “healing” qualities of percussion instruments. From among numerous works, organizers have selected three considered particularly soothing. In Part 2, guests from the world of visual art, piano and Nihon Buyo dance propose new forms for the percussion quartet. With talks and program commentary, the concert unfolds in a way that is easy to understand for a wide range of audience members, and for one night only conveys the appeal of percussion instruments with live performances.
