Shimokitazawa is an area of Tokyo where a rich variety of cultures have developed, and which attracts a range of highly perceptive and creative people.
Film festival organizers have leveraged these characteristics, building cooperative relationships with local people with the aim of becoming one of Shimokitazawa’s leading events. The theme for the eleventh festival was “SPARK FILM.” Besides a competition aimed at discovering and nurturing filmmakers, the festival featured seven programs including the world premiere of the latest feature length film by director Rikiya Imaizumi, “machinouede,” with an on-stage appearance by the director and performers.
