We developed an AR app “TOKYO DANCE AR in Koenji” on smartphones where you can enjoy unique dances while visiting various places such as izakayas, cafes, bookstores, and shrines in Koenji, and distributed it for free for a limited time. When you download the app and read the AR markers installed in various places, the performance video by the dancers will be played and you can enjoy the AR dance overlaid on the real world. The AR performances by dancers are inspired by “Koenji Baka Odori” (1957), which is the origin of Koenji Awa Odori and was performed by young people who ran through the streets in funny costumes. Through the AR work that connects the past and the present, we aimed to create a project that allows viewers to learn about the history of the local culture and become more familiar with it through a festive theme.
