Outline

A work with two actors, one poet, and one improvisational piano player.
It is a story for the cleaning out of a deceased great aunt’s house. Vacant houses without owners are a feature of 21st century society. The work evokes disturbing implications that resonate with the wider world through a modest story. OHARA’s aim is to prevail by producing works both in Japan and overseas based on her research themes: what kind of audience exists and who wants to perform and act in modern times.

Profile

Hana OHARA
Hana OHARA Born in Tokyo, Japan
Theater Director and French language instructor. Graduate of the 52nd class of Bungakuza Theatre Company’s conservatory program. She completed her master’s degree in French language and French literature at Shirayuri Women’s University with a thesis on “The use of Theatrical Methods in French Language and Literature Education”. In 2014, took part as the first batch of students in a government funded project to send future leaders of Japan to study abroad. She studied in France and in 2015, she staged her multilingual play “Leurs Déclarations” (written and directed) in which she gained a valuable experience of creating a performance abroad. Since returning to Japan, she has been working as an assistant director for theater and talk events, and has also presented her own works, including “The Overflow of Words” (composition and direction), which picks up the written language of the city. She has also been active in educational activities such as kids’ concerts, music appreciation classes, theater workshops, etc. From 2020, she entered the “Muryinkan Theater School” which is a young artists development division of Seinendan, a theater company led by Oriza Hirata, and then in 2021, she officially joined the company under directing department.
