The exhibition “PlanetesQue: The Case of Y” features new work revolving around a box designed by artist Bien and the architectural collective Group, as well as a three-dimensional work that is contained within the box. The exhibition title PlanetesQue is a word coined by artist Bien, with Planetes meaning a confused person.
Variously planned elements of coincidences (chances) are scattered around the exhibition, which is designed to allow the viewers to wander around with whomever unpacks the box, creating leeway for the exhibition itself to change depending on the intention and interpretations of those who open the box. As the title suggests, Mr. Y is responsible for creating the work this time.
The work is also an attempt to visualize elements that conceptualize the indeterminate future, such as fortune-telling or drawing lots, and the ideas and delusions that come to mind from a series of definitive symbols, as if decoding ancient letters. It is also an attempt to elicit and consider scope for the interpretation of these.
It also offers a form of problem definition common to the chance operations that inspired musician John Cage from the I Ching, and a lesson on how to coexist with the chaos created by social conditions, climate, and disasters. In this way, the artists present a plan for thinking about/aspiring to what is unplanned, through the temporary art format of an exhibition.
