  • Section : Artistic and creative activity in Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Dance

Outline

This project evolved from a recreation of Yukiko Sakata’s choreographed work “Ka” released in 2016, to a dance piece that was more ambitious in creating the scenes that Sakata herself desired. The original work received the “SDP Award” at the 2017 SAI International Dance Festival and was presented at “SeoulDance Play” (Performing Place, Yegee Art Theatre, Seoul) in May of the following year, and Sakata was reconstructing it into an hour-long piece with adding the new sound and lighting enliven new dance scenes. The content of the work was created based on a micro world view inspired by plants, and feedback from Sakata’s feelings about her father’s death. The performers included Rino Komoda and Rieko Hirata who had continued to appear in Sakata’s works, and three other new dancers as well as Takayuki Fujimoto for lighting, and Skank for music. Ruu, the costume designer, put together the visuals for the work, and other staff members also contributed greatly to the creation of the work. Sakata herself worked diligently on the choreography and direction and sought to improve her production while viewing the work objectively.
