Rotyus tackles the multi-dimensional representation of what society generalizes as a “man” by simultaneously staging two short plays and screening a short video in which one man (Ren Takeuchi) takes on multiple male roles. Due to social transformation such as social media, the level of political correctness and social etiquette required of the male majority has risen. However, rotyus believes people and groups cannot suddenly change their essential way of thinking, and that the result is friction. This project explores the concept of mutual understanding through the depiction of a man who struggles with the requirement of “becoming a good person,” and the future that lies ahead. Shiori Nakajima of iihenji and yumei acted as advisors for each short work.

rotyus
Established in 2020 by actor Ren Takeuchi, whose creative activities are based on his own experience as an actor.
Takeuchi’s style is characterized by his escape into the world of fiction as he turns away from his own past, aspects of the past he does not want to see, and a society he is unable to change. Using the power of theater to overwrite an immutable society as well as his own past, Takeuchi portrays young people of today who can only breathe by living in a world of delusion.
