This project commemorated the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Spanish Catalan composer Federico Mompou by revisiting his achievements and demonstrating not only his originality but also his universality and extensiveness. At the same time, the composer Takekuni Hirayoshi, who had a close relationship with Mompou, presented a truly international form of cultural exchange by performing his work “Winds of Catalonia”, which was born out of a deep understanding and empathy with Mompou and the culture that nurtured him.
The performers were the renowned Japanese guitarist Shinichiro Tokunaga and the equally renowned violinist Janne Tateno and his string quartet.
The program consisted of seven pieces from Mompou’s representative collection ‘Songs and Dances’, arranged for guitar and string quartet by leading Japanese composer Hirayoshi, and “Winds of Catalonia”, which was composed by Hirayoshi in the same style, as well as other famous pieces by Mompou arranged for chamber music by Japanese composers. “Winds of Catalonia” Executive Committee was formed to ensure the smooth running of this project, which requires a large number of performers and a large amount of work in production, including research and preparation of the music scores for the pieces to be used. Takahiro Isomura, the executive committee chairman, has worked in banking for many years and has a high level of administrative processing and execution skills. Mitsuru Yamada, who is also a core member of the executive committee, has been in charge of planning and producing classical music concerts for more than five years, as has Miki Yamada, another member of the executive committee.
