This exhibition by Inoue was held at jia jia house, a private residential space quite unlike a gallery or art museum. This experiment in communal living involves four members of the homeowner’s family plus two unrelated people. The principal exhibition area, a studio constituting the usual creative space, featured video and painting installations, works which visitors could practically enjoy by themselves.
For the shared area, an architect was asked to “incorporate elements of everyday life,” and “design a comfortable space” for interaction with visitors to the venue.
This area carried books of interest to the artist – books not related to the exhibition or recommended by the artist – as well as a sketchbook and things to write with. This enabled and encouraged visitors to communicate in ways other than verbally.
