As part of the 2015 International Cultural Exchange Support Project “Cultural Exchange between Italian republic and Japan”, the Japanese Traditional Performing Art Unit “Sakura-komachi Classical Japanese Music and Dance group,” a group consisting of women who only play classical Japanese instruments, will go to Italy and perform in five of Italy’s cities. Among these cities is Ravenna, as the group, in a precious chance to share Japanese traditional art with the world, was officially invited to perform as a Japanese Traditional Performing Art Unit in the world-famous Ravenna Music Festival.
Japan Performing Arts Association (“JAA”) was originally established as “Japan Traditional Cultural Saloon Ginbokukai” in November 2007. It was reorganised to a general incorporated association organised under the “Act on General Incorporated Associations and General Incorporated Foundations” in September 2009 and renamed to Japan Performing Arts Association, with a view to more focusing on social contribution through promotion of traditional Japanese culture and performing arts in Japan and overseas contributing to the international cultural exchange.
JAA is managed by the directors including Mr. Haruo Misumi as the honorary chairman, who is the incumbent chairman of the Performing Arts Society, Mr. Hideo Shimoda, as the ceo, who is ex-chief producer in traditional performing arts division at NHK and Mr. Katsuo Suzuki, ex-executive director of Isetan Co., Ltd.
