“Koganei Artfull Action!” is a project of Tokyo’s Koganei City Art Culture Promotion Plan designed to encourage greater participation in art and culture, and in so doing enrich the lives of its residents. The aim is to create opportunities for citizens to seek greater meaning in existence by providing new discoveries in everyday life and allowing people to uncover their hidden potential through encounters with art.
In Fiscal Year 2013, “Koganei Artfull Action!” (the Koganei City Art Culture Promotion Project) brought together many citizens, artists, administrators, and coordinators of all ages in activities centered mainly on day-care facilities and elementary schools. The accomplishments will be published, and discussions involving citizens will take place on questions that emerge with a view to forthcoming activities in the city. Everyone has artistic potential; we hope everyone will come out and join in with us.

Come gather round the table, and talk about art, and about life. In the city of Koganei, many citizens, children, and artists are making art together, dancing, singing, and engaging in a host of fulfilling activities. Supporting these activities are citizens, elementary-school teachers, and all the related administrators. What sort of trial-and-error process will make these activities creative and fruitful where they actually occur? In addition to the projects that took place in Fiscal Year 2013, citizens, artists, elementary school art teachers, specialists, and NPO staff will gather around the table, collating and assessing the results of such events as the 55th Anniversary of Koganei City and the Tama no Carnival and thinking about future activities. Won’t you join us? We hope you will come out and join in.
