Gazing at Tokyo from a blue island in Japonesia*

This spring, a new art project called “Tokyo Soup, Blanket and Travelogue” debuted with Shirotama Hitsujiya at its core. “Taidan Kikou ― Round table session 2014 Autumn Edition ~ We fell over, we got lost, we looked at things, and now we want to talk to Tokyo about it all ~” is one part of that project, hosted by Hitsujiya and Erika Kobayashi. At this event the pair will welcome three guests: Hideharu Kikuchi, Fram Kitagawa and Takashi Shinkawa. In early September, Hitsujiya and Kobayashi visited Aogashima, an island administered by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which is the site of the least populated village in Japan. This part of the project was called “Aogashima Blanket.” At the conversation event, Hitsujiya and Kobayashi will join their guests in a rambling discussion of their thoughts on Tokyo as viewed from Aogashima, a blue island in the expanse of “Japonesia.”

*The term Japonesia refers to the Japanese archipelago as a geographical rather than a political entity.
