First stage revival in the RooTS series is confirmed

Mum & Gipsy’s Takahiro Fujita caused a stir in December 2015 with his contemporary reworking and unique interpretation of Shuji Terayama’s early work, “Throw Away Your Books, Let’s Get onto the Streets.” This long-awaited revival promises to live up to expectations.

The RooTS project
The underground theater movement of the 1960s and 1970s is considered to be at the roots of contemporary 21st century Japanese theater. In this series from Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, the many outstanding plays generated by the underground movement are entrusted to the sensibility and interpretation of leading young directors of today, with a view to reexamining and revisiting their appeal.
