Multicultural Film Making presents: One-day screening of the movie “New Tokyo Tour"

Genre:
  • Art Project ,
  • Exhibition / Screening ,
  • Others

In the project “Multicultural Film Making: Creating a movie with people who have different roots (MFM),” project members made a narrative film together with those among them who have roots overseas (as well), sharing their thoughts and feelings about the neighborhoods they live in for a movie themed around “the new neighborhood.” Through this screening event, the people involved will explore the new perspectives and forms of expression generated by the project, and the appeal of the act of “creating” with other people.

The screening event will be divided into two parts: a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning session comprises short interviews between participating MFM members from a variety of backgrounds who talk about their roots, a screening of video works they created, and a talk. The afternoon session consists of a screening of the movie “New Tokyo Tour” along with the screening of a “making-of” video capturing the film production process, and a talk by the director and project members.

Movie “New Tokyo Tour”
Lee loses her job, breaks up with her boyfriend, and is losing sight of the meaning of living in this city. One day Lee has a chance encounter with Toshiki, who is new to Tokyo, and finds herself going on a sightseeing tour with him. The story developed from the roots of project members who made the movie, and from episodes in their daily life. It may not be fiction at all, but the life of someone in the neighborhood you live in.
