Between the ordinary and the extraordinary, reality and unreality.
“Time” and “experience” of objects (mono), people, and places intersect;
The performance of imagination
Raises the curtain on a unique story.
By confronting objects (mono), participants expand their imagination and create their own stories.
Welcome to the playground of “Mono-monologue.”
Raccolta – Creative Material Lab is a framework for reutilizing unwanted parts and fittings provided by local businesses to use as creative materials for artistic expression. Children and adults engage in expressive activities in workshops designed by incorporating years of research by artists into workshop material. This is a learning project which creates opportunities to look at familiar things from a different perspective and acquire a fresh outlook through the artists’ point of view.
For the third workshop, contemporary artist Hiroko Okada guides participants to the world of the imagination using quirky materials provided by CIRCUS Co., Ltd. Workshop time and space will be made into a narrative video work. Please feel free to join us!

“Mono-monologue” is a first attempt on my part.
Although it’s a workshop, I’m running it with a sense of creating a work called “Mono-monologue” together with the participants.
There are lots of things around us that we don’t need but can’t throw away.
Through the Raccolta project, I’ve come across objects that are no longer in use, things that have served their purpose and have been lying quietly for ages in warehouses.
These things may be seen as useless or unnecessary from a social perspective.
But it seems these objects are beginning to have a value above “use.”
But as they are no longer used, it seemed to me these objects then start to possess a value other than “use.”
I often look at and think carefully about objects from this perspective. This way, the things that seem to be asleep (or dead?) start to look fresh and alive.
I believe this is an example of artistic perspective.
I don’ t believe there is anything in the world that can be called meaningless or worthless. The same goes for objects and people.
When we imagine things, the frontal and parietal lobes of our brains are apparently activated.
The workshop will provide certain mechanisms to stimulate this.
We will also get the participants to work their frontal and parietal lobes to the full.
This is a workshop where each participant can play in the world of their imagination.
I wonder what sort of language will emerge in each participant’s imaginary world, and how their stories will unravel?
How will objects start to live again?
I for one am looking forward to finding out.
*The word “monologue” is a combination of the Latin words mono (one) and logue (talk), and means “one person’s story, a soliloquy”.
