Spanish theatre giant Angélica Liddell is famed for her lyrical work examining humanity through themes of sex, violence, and madness. After both shocking and beguiling audiences at the Festival d’Avignon and other festivals and theatres all over Europe, Liddell makes her long-awaited debut in Japan with this acclaimed production. The protagonist is Wendy, the heroine of the timeless children’s story Peter Pan. But now Wendy isn’t in Neverland: she’s in Utøya, the Norwegian island where 69 young people were killed in 2011. Wendy also travels to Shanghai, where old people dance a waltz on the streets. This is an itinerant portrait of solitude, maternity, and chaos told through the eyes of Wendy, who is powerfully played by Liddell herself.
