These days, the practical use of street space as a way of creating urban buzz is attracting a great deal of attention from local governments nationwide, as well as from cities in countries around the world. Up to now AKITEN has held workshops on practical ways of using empty shops and houses, but for these workshops participants will join in examining the utilization of street space as vacant space.
The workshop will start with a walk through town. Participants will search for street design ideals through a variety of techniques like brainstorming issues and ideas, sketches, photomontage, etc.
Additionally, during the workshop there will be a talk session by three landscape architects on advanced street design in the United States, Scandinavia, Oceania and in Japan. Explore the future of Hachioji street design with three young landscape architects working in Japan and overseas who specialize in leading edge street design.
