Outline

This is a revival of “Leviathan (Sei-ju),” which premiered at Theater Tram in 2017 as a Winners’ Performance for the Toyota Choreography Award 2016. From January 2019 it toured nationwide, finishing its run of performances in Tokyo in July 2019 at Setagaya Public Theatre, the largest capacity venue of the tour.
Taking insects as its movement theme, this work compares insects with humans and explores humanity from there.
This work incorporates the concept of “nation” or “state,” which forms the basis of Leviathan in the Old Testament, Thomas Hobbes’s “Leviathan” and “Leviathan” by Paul Auster.
In addition, the work’s dance techniques involve new approaches to body movement, such as the elevation of different bodily parts and the minimization of movement.
